Merewood Arboricultural Consultancy Services (MACS) is an independent company established and managed by Simon Hawkins. Simon has been studying and working with trees for over thirty years and in that time has accrued a wide range of experience and knowledge.

Simon first worked with a landscaping company, where he gained experience of tree and shrub planting and landscaping schemes, providing a background into the value of trees in our everyday lives.

Simon went on to study Arboriculture at Merrist Wood Agricultural College on the 3 year BTec National Diploma course, which he was awarded in 1987. Upon leaving college Simon set up his own business shortly before the memorable hurricane of October 1987.

Knowledge and Experience

Having run his tree surgery business with great success, Simon decided to gain experience with local authorities as a tree officer. He joined the London Borough of Lambeth initially, which gave him a good grounding in the issues facing a major inner city Borough and the problems of tree retention in the urban environment. From here, Simon went on to join the London Borough of Hillingdon where he gained further experience in the planning system. He finally joined South Bucks District Council completing 17 years experience with Local Authorities in Planning Departments. Simon now puts this experience to good use and is a highly experienced planning specialist.

Professional, Efficient Tree Surveys

In 2007 Simon  decided the time was right to once again set out on his own, putting all his experience and knowledge to good use. MACS was set up and Simon left Local Authority work to run the business full time.
